DR. MCCLAIN
A LIFE DEDICATED TO SERVING OTHERS
Dr. Terrance J. McClain is a motivational speaker, educational trainer, and community speaker. Dr. McClain grew up in Houston, TX in a urban neighborhood with two parents and two sibilings. Throughout his life he struggled with his identity and meeting others expectations. Despite his personal struggles, Dr. McClain was able to have many successes in academics and personal accomplishments.
Through many mentors and pseudo family members, Dr. McClain was able to graduate at the top of his high school class and attend college as the first male in his family. He graduated from Texas A&M University in College Station, TX. While at Texas A&M University was able to become the man that he is today. From being one of few African American males in his social settings, to traveling abroad for education, Dr. McClain grew to be a unique individual. It is at Texas A&M University that he discovered his gift for communication and his passion for working with college students.
After graduating from Texas A&M University, Dr. McClain attended Texas State University to complete his Masters in Student Affairs in Higher Education, graduating in 2014. His journey to Texas State University led him to explore racial inequities and his desire to support African American men in college. He later became an Academic Advisor at Texas State University and took his passions to professional conferences.
Due to the success and interest with advising African American males, Dr. McClain has since then written, published, conducted webinars/trainings, and been featured on podcast. All of these things led him to pursue his PhD in Adult Education, focusing on strategies to support African American males. Dr. McClain graduate Texas State University with his PhD in 2019. While at Texas State University Dr. McClain met his wife. Of all of the things he has accomplished, Dr. McClain is most proud of his wife and daughter. Dr. McClain loves people and is best known for his peach cobbler. He is a cook, baker, and novice griller. Outside of these activities, Dr. McClain cultivates his spiritual relationship and faith.
